ART:early decay is gently removed from the tooth (no freezing nor drilling required) and a Glass Ionomer filling material (GIC) is placed. GIC is classified as a temporary material but, has been known to last years in many instances. Further treatment from a Dentist may be required.
SMART:Silver diamine fluoride is painted on early decay to "eat up" the soft, diseased tissue and leave healthy, hardened tissue. That tissue is then covered later with glass ionomer (GIC) to fill up and protect the area. GIC is classified as a temporary material but, has been known to last years in many instances. Further treatment from a Dentist may be required.
SDF: Silver diamine fluoride - sometimes only the painting of SDF is required to arrest (stop) decay from progressing. This is particularily true in early diagnosis of decay in adult or baby teeth, and can prevent the decay from worsening.
